EIGHTH DISTRICT: Steve Light

Limestone
Self-employed
Seeking first full term
“Everybody needs to work together for one goal, and that is what is best for all citizens. That’s what we’re there for,” said Light, who was elected to serve the remaining two years of the term begun by the late Evert Jarrett. “I want Washington County to be a safe place for people to work and raise their families. I also want us to have good, safe schools.”
1. What are the priorities of a county commissioner?
“To listen to the people in my district. I get out quite a bit, and I listen to what they want and what they need. We also need better communication among the commissioners. We need to look at every resolution that comes before us and consider the concerns of the citizens.”
2. How will you prepare for committee meetings and meetings of the full commission?
“I read every word of the agenda packet, and I mark things to go back and study. I also review what was done in the committee meetings, and look at the purpose of all of the resolutions. I ask a lot of questions.”
