Early voting up in Washington County, ends Saturday

With early voting coming to a close on Saturday, Washington County Administrator of Elections Connie Sinks expects a busy next couple of days.
“Turnout for early voting has been higher than it has been in any previous August election,” Sinks said. “Voters are getting more used to the early voting part of an election and the convenience of it, so the numbers are up.”
The early voting period began July 16 and, according to Sinks, 3,452 residents of Washington County had already cast their ballots as of Monday afternoon.
“It’s nice to see those numbers when we end the day, that they are up and we are just getting more each day,” said Sinks, who expects a 25 percent voter turnout when the election is all said and done.
“The county commission races always bring out more people than you would imagine because those are the officials that are actually in the community,” she said.
Early voting continues through Saturday, July 31. The General Election will take place Aug. 5.
