Downtown store ‘i fancy food’ closing its doors

Jonesborough will soon be without a local gourmet food and specialty store.
According to an e-mail received by Town of Jonesborough officials, Jennifer Lesman, co-owner of i fancy food, has announced the store’s closing.
The business began as an online entity in 2008 and opened a storefront on Main Street later that same year.
The store then moved across the street to 105 Courthouse Square.
In the e-mail, Lesman said, “We started out as an online specialty food store in 2008. That started smoothly, and we opened up our store later in the year. We didn’t realize that this would essentially be running two entire businesses. To make a very long story short, the best (and only) move for our business is to return to our roots — and effective immediately we will go back to being an online retailer.”
The products sold by i fancy food will continue to be available online and Lesman said she will continue to work from the store location for a while.
Until a new tenant can be found for the building, Lesman said the retail location will have limited store hours, remaining open on Saturdays from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.
Bob Browning, Jonesborough Town Administrator, said he hates to see the business close.
“We hate to lose anybody. But with the economy the way it is, it is just a tough market,” Browning said. “From the town’s standpoint, we are doing what we can to draw attention to our downtown. It’s a priority for us.”
Browning said he plans to work with new tourism director, Alicia Phelps, who began her duties on Monday, to “look at what we’re doing right and what we’re doing wrong” to stimulate and retain business in Jonesborough.
