Downtown landscaping topic of meeting scheduled for Aug. 11

A joint meeting of Jonesborough’s Tree and Townscape Board and its Historic Zoning Commission is scheduled to take place Thursday, Aug. 11, at 6 p.m. to review a preliminary downtown streetscape plan.
During the 2009-2010 fiscal year, the Tree and Townscape Board asked a landscape architect to provide cost estimates on developing a comprehensive downtown landscape plan.
In April, residents and town leaders met with the landscape architect to discuss further the streetscape plan.
At the time, David Tuch, vice president and landscape architect for Equinox Environmental Consultation and Design, said opportunities to build on in the downtown area included its rich history, storytelling and a center square with a courthouse.
Based on feedback from that meeting, Tuch and his colleagues developed a preliminary streetscape plan that will be discussed at the Aug. 11 meeting.
The meeting is scheduled to take place in Town Hall, but may be moved to the Visitors Center based on space needs.
