Crockett NJROTC places third in air rifle championship, will head to nationals

Five cadets from the David Crockett High School NJROTC Rifle team recently traveled to Anniston, Ala., to compete in the Navy JROTC Air Rifle Championship.
Shawn Wingerter, Matthew Hawkins, Jesse Adams, Jessica Kudera and Meghan Lockwood shot for three days against the best Navy teams and cadets in the nation.
The cadets were shooting not only for the medallions that come with placing in first through fifth as a team, but for the respect and honor that comes with simply being qualified to go to the championships.
Individually, the cadets shot against 133 of the top shooters and all did very well. Wingerter placed sixth and Adams placed twelfth. As a team, they placed third overall against the top 24 Navy JROTC teams in the nation.
This accomplishment earned them the opportunity to compete in the JROTC National Competition in March against the best Air Force, Army, Marine Corps and Navy JROTC teams from around the country.
