County to receive $234M from state

Washington County will receive approximately $233.8 million in state appropriations during the 2011-2012 fiscal year, according to information released late last week.
Washington County also will receive a portion of the federal funds included in Tennessee’s $30.8 billion budget as adopted by the 107th General Assembly.
The county will receive budget appropriations totaling $57.4 million for education (kindergarten through 12th grade); $16.2 million in shared state tax collections; $63.7 million for health and social services; $74.45 million in economic development and higher education; $8.87 million for justice and public safety; $2.55 million for recreation and resources development; and $2.2 million for transportation and state highway projects.
