Cooks wanted to take part in upcoming chili cookoff

The Town of Jonesborough is looking for contestants to compete in its upcoming chili cookoff.
The Jonesborough Chill Out, set for Sunday, Oct. 14, from noon-6 p.m. at the International Storytelling Center, is now accepting interested contestants.
Chili must be cooked from scratch at home or an alternate location. Teams must produce 4 gallons of chili for judging and public tasting. Contestants will be expected to bring their chili entries hot and ready to eat. No electricity will be provided. Chili will be kept warm with a provided chaffer and sterno.
Teams may provide a canopy and chairs if they desire. One table, spoons and napkins for tasting will be provided.
Booth set-up begins at 10 a.m. with judging at 11:30 a.m. The event opens to the public at noon.
Judges will rate competing chilies on their taste, color, aroma, consistency and aftertaste. Prizes will be given for Chili Champion, People’s Choice Award and Best Booth.
Other activities to take place during the Jonesborough Chill Out include a children’s area, family storytelling, craft vendors and live music. Craft beer and other food items will also be available for purchase.
A limited number of chili cookoff entries will be accepted. Early registration, which runs through September, is $30. Entries accepted Oct. 1-10 will be $50.
Proceeds will benefit the Jonesborough Area Merchants & Services Association and the Jonesborough Area Ministerial Association.
