Construction of new senior center nears

The Town of Jonesborough will issue a request for bids for the construction of its new senior center later this week.
After receiving the go-ahead from USDA Rural Development — the organization lending the town $2.3 million to build the center — town officials planned to publicly seek bids beginning Friday, June 28.
The bids are for the entire construction of the new center, which will be located at the corner of East Main Street and Longview Drive.
The main level of the two-level facility will include 15,400 square feet of finished space.
Bids are due on the project by Thursday, July 25.
Town officials had hoped the project would be under construction by this spring, but could not bid it out until Rural Development approved the architectural plans.
The town will likely wait until it gets the bids back and selects a contractor to do the project before breaking ground at the site.
