Center seeks artistic eggs for Easter

Jonesborough’s Mary B. Martin Program for the Arts at the McKinney Center is “egg-cited” to announce its First Egg Decorating Contest, in partnership with the Town of Jonesborough’s Easter Eggstravaganza on Saturday, March 28.
With cash prizes at stake in the adult category and gift certificates from local merchants given in the youth category, the McKinney Center is seeking entries from gifted artists who take egg decorating to the next level. Beyond simple egg dyes, this contest is seeking artistic entries incorporating any media, to turn a standard large chicken egg into an artistic masterpiece. The winning eggs in each category will be displayed at the International Storytelling Center during Easter Eggstravaganza on March 28 from 1-3 p.m.
Decorated eggs will be judged equally (20 percent each) on five factors, which include: (1) Design: theme, uniqueness, overall appeal; (2) Artistic Merit: quality of work with media; (3) Creativity: use of unique ideas/materials; (4) Technical Merit: clean edges, glue hidden, attractive finishing; and (5) Effective use of the Egg: meaningful use of space and shape.
First place will be awarded $100, $50 to second-, and $25 to third- place winners in the adult category. Entry fee is $5.
The adult category is age 16 through adult. Youth category is age 15 and younger. All entries must be turned in at the McKinney Center by Thursday, March 26.
Judging will take place by a distinguished panel of judges between March 26 and March 27. Winners will be announced and awards given during Easter Eggstravaganza. Full entry guidelines are listed below
