Celebrating the reason for the season

Hundreds of area residents took a trip back in time over the weekend to visit Bethlehem on the night that Jesus was born.
Harmony Baptist Church’s first-ever interactive nativity gave visitors a glimpse of what life was probably like back then, complete with a real-life baby Jesus, livestock, camels and a full-fledged marketplace.
According to Steve Pate, the church’s pastor, approximately 70 people volunteered to serve as cast members for the event, including Joe Haynes, the tiny infant who portrayed a sleeping baby Jesus in the arms of Mary and Joseph, played by Holly and Jordan Pate, pictured above.
An estimated 600 people stopped by to stroll through the market during the two-day event that culminated on Sunday evening.
The Jonesborough church put on the live nativity as its Christmas gift to the community, Pate said.
