Captain D’s coming to Jonesborough

A variance request at the Jonesborough Board of Zoning and Appeals meeting earlier this month revealed the identity of an incoming restaurant.
While officials had said a fast food seafood restaurant was interested in locating off Highway 11E near Headtown Road, the name of that restaurant had yet to be revealed.
At the May 15 meeting of the BZA, officials representing Captain D’s restaurant were on hand requesting a sign variance for that property.
BZA members approved the variance, which allows the establishment to be more flexible with a required 12-foot buffer between it and an adjacent property.
At a meeting of the Planning Commission on May 15, members also approved a site plan for Captain D’s.
As part of their plan to locate in Jonesborough, restaurant officials said they wanted a public access road built from Headtown Road to Bayleigh Lynn Loop across from Lowe’s.
Fred Llano, owner of the property, has agreed to work with the Town of Jonesborough to create the road, which would run parallel to Highway 11E.
Llano will donate a 50-foot right-of-way for the road and the town will handle building and paving the road. A preliminary estimate for the paving is $75,000.
“For us, a town this size, with the limited funds we have, a project like this is a homerun,” said Mayor Kelly Wolfe during a previous meeting of the Board of Mayor and Aldermen.
The road opens up three to four additional properties for development, one of which is currently being negotiated, according to town leaders.
