Brains and Brawn: Crockett NJROTC earns top spot at competition

David Crockett topped them all at the NJROTC Area Nine East Spring Brain Brawl.

During this year’s competition on Saturday, March 13, hosted by Volunteer High School, David Crockett’s NJROTC Academic Team B took first place in the overall competition.

The competition included four Navy JROTC schools (David Crockett, Volunteer, Sullivan North, and Cherokee) and six total teams participating in this academic championship held in the Fall and Spring.

Crockett’s Team B included Tristan Craven, Adina Phebus, Hope Krell, and Meghan Nesmith. Cadet Commander Callie Scott was the alternate for the team. Team A included Alex Brown, TJ Bailey, Ilyssa Marshall, and Nicholas Kulp.

The mission of Navy JROTC is to instill in the values of citizenship, service to the United States, personal responsibility, and a sense of accomplishment. Trips to military bases and universities around the region help accomplish this mission by showing Cadets opportunities that await upon completion of High School.

Cadets receive academic credit for their enrollment in JROTC while earning community service hours, participating in extracurricular activities, and developing leadership attributes. Cadets have no military obligation for participating in JROTC, but they can receive promotion in the armed forces should they chose to enlist.
