Boxcar Betty’s closing its doors

Eco-friendly store, Boxcar Betty’s Eco Depot, will be going out of business as of Dec. 31.
Store owner June Beck originally opened her downtown shop, which features everything from Fairtrade home décor to recycled auto parts, at 103 E. Main St., in 2010. She moved her store to its current location at 101 E. Courthouse Square earlier this year.
“I had a great first year and a half, but I just couldn’t survive all the digging,” she said. “It’s been fun and I really have enjoyed it. It was agony making the decision to close. Finally, when I made it, I thought to myself, ‘Well, you’ve just got to suck it up and get it done.’”
Almost everything will go, she said, including inventory, most of the displays and other fixtures.
Beck, who has a background in healthcare, says she will likely return to that field after closing the store.
