Jonesborough will be holding its first annual Scarecrow Com- petition this fall on Main Street.

Beginning Sept. 23, businesses downtown can display their most creative scarecrows throughout town. This new fall tradition is being organized by the Jonesborough Area Merchants and Service Association.

Businesses participating in the competition should leave their scarecrows on display for all to see from 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 23 through Monday, Oct. 31.

“The scarecrow competition is a great way to encourage friendly competition with other members, but also another way to add to the beautiful scenery our town provides,” said organizer Gabe Eveland. “The county and town do such a wonderful job decorating downtown for autumn, and we wanted to add something a bit extra fror all our visitors and locals alike.”

There will be a grand prize of $250 for the best scarecrow, a second-place price of $150, and a third-place prize of $100.

JAMSA members will be voting on scarecrow displays from Sept. 24 through Oct. 31 and winners will be announced Nov. 1.

“We hope the scarecrows on display will bring people to Jonesborough, which in turn creates a financial impact for those businesses that choose to participate,” Eveland said.
