Jonesborough’s Board of Mayor & Alderman and Veteran’s Affairs Committee will host the town’s tribute to veterans on Sunday, May 29 at 2:30 p.m. at the Historic Jonesborough Visitors Center.
In honor of both living and deceased veterans Jonesborough’s Memorial Day celebration will include a musical tribute featuring songs performed by the Johnson City Community Concert Band, under the direction Dr. Christian Zembower.
Presenters will also include Jonesborough Veterans Affairs Committee Chair Marion Light, Heritage Alliance Special Projects Coordinator Anne Mason, Town of Jonesborough Operations Manager Craig Ford with presentation of colors by Tennessee Highway Patrol Honor Guard and Daniel Boone Marine JROTC and taps by Jim Culp.
Marking the 34th event Jonesborough has hosted in honor of veterans, the tribute will be followed by a reception that is open to the public.

‘Decorate Speedwell’ event to be held May 28
On Saturday, May 28, at 11 a.m. at Speedwell Cemetery, located at Cherokee Road, Johnson City, the Speedwell Cemetery Board of Trustees will host a Memorial Day event called “Decorate Speedwell.”
The trustees would like the community and descendants to participate in what they promise to be a Memorial Day celebration like no other.
Events will include a Memorial Day Service at 11 a.m. with speaker, Rev. Pete Tackett, Antioch Baptist Church Senior Pastor. There will also be a recognition of unmarked graves, and the interned veterans, with flags.
Participants who would like to sit need to bring a chair.
Trustees also would like to see every grave covered in flowers, as it would have been on Decoration Days of the past. Participants should bring cut flowers and place them on graves at Speedwell Cemetery from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Mt. Wesley plans Memorial Day service
Mt. Wesley United Methodist Church, 586 Mt. Wesley Road, Telford, will hold its annual Memorial Day service on Sunday, May 29, at 10:30 am.
Individuals interred in the church cemetery this past year will be remembered with a candlelighting observance during the worship service.
A covered dish lunch in the church fellowship hall will immediately follow the worship service.
Visitors are welcome.
