The Lady Trailblazers held on for a 51-49 win over Science Hill Monday night at Daniel Boone

The rescheduled conference game on Monday came after the Lady ‘Blazers defeated The Lady Hilltoppers on Friday in a fiery 51-46 on the road conference match up.

But after holding a nine point lead at halftime during Monday night’s game in Bobby Snyder Gymnasium, Boone ran into foul trouble and an offensive dry spell to let the Toppers back into the game.

Science Hill tied the game with 1:16 left.

Senior Macie Culbertson (left) scored her 1000th point against Science Hill on Monday.

Boone’s Jaycie Jenkins drove down the lane and gave the Lady Blazers the two point lead with 8.5 seconds left. The Lady Toppers (7-2, 20-4) had a final chance to tie or win but were unable to get the shot off, preserving the win and first place in the conference for Daniel Boone (8-0, 20-4).  Macie Culbertson led Boone with 17 points, including her 1000th career point.

The Boone boys weren’t as fortunate, however.  Science Hill (8-1, 17-7) pulled away in the second period and held Boone off the rest of the way to top the Trailblazers 66-56.

Boone managed to pull within four points in the third period but could not generate enough offense to stay close.

Eric Rigsby paced the Blazers, whose record now stands at (4-4) in the conference and (12-10) overall.

The ‘Blazers will host Volunteer at Boone’s Bobby Snyder Gymnasium on Wednesday, Jan. 31. Girls varsity tips off at 6:30 p.m. followed by boys varsity at 8 p.m.
