Robert Carr -

Robert William “Bob” Carr, 83, Jonesborough, died Saturday, July 7, 2012 at Lakebridge Health Care Center following a brief illness.

Mr. Carr was a native and lifelong resident of Johnson City. He was a son of the late Cyrus William and Lucy Vance Carr.

Mr. Carr retired from CSX Railroad in 1992 where he was a pipefitter/steamfitter, following forty-two years of service. He was a member of the local pipefitters/steamfitters union, a 32nd Degree Mason and member of the Rhea Lodge #47, and a former Shriner.

Mr. Carr was a member of Cherry Grove Baptist Church.

He loved gardening, his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Carr was preceded in death by his first wife, Doris Isaacs Carr, second wife, Beulah Carr, four brothers, Earnest, Joe N., Roby and Elmer Carr, and a step-son, Wayne Hutchins.

He is survived by three sons, Dennis Carr and wife Mary, Telford, Lewis Carr and wife Linda, Cyrus Carr and wife Jamye, all of Jonesborough; four daughters, Marilyn Knight, Michie, TN, Jo Ellen Bengert and husband Glenn, Tampa, FL, Robin Carr, Atlanta, GA, and Mickey Isenburg and husband Johnny, Kinston, NC; two brothers, Melvin Carr and wife Brenda, Kingsport, and Floyd Carr and wife Nancy, Jonesborough; one sister, Sarah Toth and husband Joe, Johnson City; thirteen grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service was conducted Monday, July 9, 2012, from the East Chapel of the Appalachian Funeral Home, with Rev. Kenneth Kyker officiating. Special music was provided by Doyle Walters.

The graveside committal service will be held Tuesday, at 11:00 A.M. in Carr Cemetery with Masonic Services being conducted by the Rhea Lodge #47. Active pallbearers will be Ben Carr, Brian Carr, Jerry Carr, Marcus Carr, Johnny Isenburg and Todd Parker. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Rhea Lodge #47.

Those planning to attend are to meet at the funeral home by 10:30 A.M. Tuesday to proceed to the cemetery.
