Catherine Pickett -
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Catherine A. Pickett, daughter of Mr. Charles Pickett of Danville, IL, and Mrs. Mary Jones of Jonesborough, TN, on Tuesday, November 15, 2011, in Jonesborough.
Cathy, or Canoe as she was known to her friends, was born on October 13, 1955, in Danville, IL. She is survived by both her parents as well as her sisters, Rebecca Chapman, of Jonesborough, and Barbara Kruse, of West Palm Beach, FL; her brother, Michael Pickett, of Danville; her niece Angela Pickett and nephews, Nathan Pickett, Will Chapman and his wife, Crystal, Robb Chapman and his wife, Andrea; and her special kitty, Sophie.
Cathy was preceded in death by her sister, Susan Pickett.
Cathy attended Bismarck High School and Illinois State University. After college she moved to Tucson, AZ, where she spent nearly 20 years working for Buffalo Exchange Clothing Co. Her love of travel and adventure led her to Central America, where she then spent a year hiking and exploring.
Cathy then began her next adventure by moving north to Bozeman, MT, where she opened her own Buffalo Exchange franchise. The next several years were spent pursuing her deep passion for the great outdoors, enjoying her many friends and successfully building her business.
Always powerfully independent and fiercely loyal, Cathy enjoyed her life to the fullest — always ready to hike a new trail, explore a new mountain or valley or get together with her friends and her beloved “Geezer Group.”
She was loved and respected by all who knew her and will be greatly missed as she begins her ultimate journey, now fit, strong and pain free in her world beyond this earth. Per Cathy’s wishes, she will be cremated and her ashes spread in her beloved Ruby Valley in Montana.
Memorial contributions may be made in her name to The Caring Bridge at CaringBridge.org or Caring Bridge, Donation Processing Center, P.O. Box 6032, Albert Lea, MN 56007-6632; or online at the Scleroderma Foundation or Heart of the Valley Inc. Bozeman, MT.
Memorial services were conducted November 17, 2011, at Christian Care Center.
