Boone boys manage to squeeze in a victory over Tennessee High
By Chris Shields
While rain was to blame for shutting down several of the Jan. 15 contests, it was Thursday evening’s snow that was responsible for the cancelation of the Jan. 18 games.
The Pioneers and Lady Pioneers of David Crockett High School didn’t see action at all last week as a result of the postponements.
Their Jan. 15 contest against Dobyns-Bennett was postponed until Wednesday, Jan. 23, and their Friday bout against Volunteer was moved to Monday, Feb. 4.
The Blazers and Lady Blazers of Daniel Boone did get to play in their Jan. 15 contests against Tennessee High, splitting games on the night.
The Lady Blazers (11-9, 3-5) put together a competitive first half against the conference’s second best team, eventually heading to halftime trailing by just seven points.
The second half would be a much different story, with Boone struggling to score in the third quarter.
At the end of the quarter, the Lady Blazers had managed just eight points and the Lady Vikings (17-4, 7-2) took advantage, stretching their lead to 18.
Boone was outscored in the final quarter by five points, eventually giving Tennessee High a 73-50 win.
Boone was led in the loss by Jenny Snyder with 18 points; she was the only Blazer to reach double-figures.
The Boone boys’ team (14-6, 5-3) followed the girls’ game by capturing a 43-40 victory over the Vikings (14-10, 3-6).
In the contest, the Blazers overcame a seven-point deficit after three quarters to win the contest in the final stanza.
Boone outscored the Vikings 17-7 in the fourth quarter to cap off the tremendous comeback run.
The Blazers were led by Dillon Reppart and Ryan Gaitor, who scored 13 and 10 points respectively.
Blazer squads were unable to compete Jan. 18 against Sullivan South due to weather, and the games were rescheduled for Monday, Jan. 28.
