Pioneers come away with first conference win, Lady Pioneers still winless in Big 8
By Christopher ShieldsThe Lady Pioneers of David Crockett High School are still searching for their first Big 8 Conference win, opening the season at 1-5 overall with a 0-2 conference mark.
The Crockett boys’ and girls’ teams opened last week with a Dec. 4 matchup at home against Volunteer.
Isaac Mango provided the spark for Crockett, scoring 19 points in a 62-55 win at home.
The win was Crockett’s first conference victory of the season.
The Lady Pioneers were not as fortunate, falling 67-42. It makes their fifth dropped contest of the season in six outings.
After capturing their first conference win of the season on Dec. 4, the Pioneers hosted Tennessee High in Jonesborough to close out the week on Dec. 7.
Unfortunately for Crockett, offensive baskets came few and far between in a 68-19 loss for the boys’ team.
Crockett fell behind 35-13 after the first half and the offensive woes continued in the third and fourth quarter as the Pioneers managed to score just six points in the second half, struggling through their worst shooting game of the season.
Noah Leonard led the Pioneers in scoring with six points.
