Bark For Life coming to Jonesborough

With the help of Happy Tails — Jonesborough Publishing’s publication about animals and the people who love them —and other generous sponsors, the American Cancer Society will host a special event called Bark For Life for dogs and their human companions.

Bark For Life will be held Sunday, Oct. 27, from 2-4 p.m. at Storytelling Park in downtown Jonesborough.

The Bark For Life event honors the care-giving qualities of our canine “best friends” and includes a walk, special dog activities and fun contests for dogs as well as humans.

“Canine companions represent unconditional love, joy, security, compassion, and no judgments of human abilities or appearances,” said American Cancer Society’s Cara Ledbetter. “Bark For Life is a fun way to make new friends, both canine and human, while supporting the life-saving mission of the American Cancer Society.”

You and your dog(s) are invited to form a Bark For Life companion team. Registration fee is $10 per dog/human team and includes a Bark For Life goodie bag for the dog and entry into all contests at the event.

Prizes will be awarded for several of the contests, including best costume and best trick.

Every canine also has the option of raising additional money to benefit the American Cancer Society. The Top 13 fundraising dogs will be featured in the upcoming 2013 Bark For Life calendar, put out by Happy Tails magazine.

Last year’s event helped raise $10,000 for the ACS.
