Town awarded $1,900 for theater arts program

The Town of Jonesborough is among six regional organizations to be awarded an Arts Build Communities grant for the 2013-2014 fiscal year for special arts projects.

Funded by the Tennessee Arts Commission, the $1,900 grant given to the town will support its theater arts community outreach initiative, including performances in nursing homes and at the Veterans Administration.

ABC grants are awarded to organizations as support for arts projects that broaden access to arts experiences, enhance community quality of life, and promote cultural experiences.

On July 25, local grant applications were reviewed and evaluated by a volunteer citizen panel.

Other regional grant recipients include the Johnson City Community Theatre, Central Ballet Theatre Inc., Johnson County Friends of the Library, Science Hill (High School) Band Boosters, and the Town of Unicoi.

Grants to the six regional entities totaled nearly $10,000.
