Gray appears to have new attorney for case

A status hearing on the legal representation for former school bus driver Brenda Gray was held Aug. 29 in Washington County Criminal Court.

Gray is facing numerous felony charges for the crash that took place almost one year ago, injuring 39 David Crockett High School students.

According to Assistant District Attorney Erin McArdle, attorney Clifton Corker has agreed to look at Gray’s case.

Judge Robert Cupp told Gray she was blessed with the new opportunity, and expressed concern about her using her retirement funds to pay fees due to former attorney Michael LaGuardia, who died unexpectedly before her hearing in July.

“Are we still on the same track with a plea first?” Cupp asked McArdle.

“Yes, but I’m not holding him to that,” she answered. “He can look at the information.”

Cupp set Wednesday, Oct. 9, as a bench day for Gray to enter a plea.
