Boone JROTC takes first at drill meet

The Daniel Boone High School Marine Corps Junior ROTC unit took first place in the second annual Drill and Rifle competition at South Iredell High School in Statesville, N.C.

The competition took place Nov. 3.

Boone’s drill team took first place in all 10 events, besting schools from a three-state region.

Commanders for the unit were Mariah DeBruin, Jared Gardner, Shawn Mullins, Joseph Monaco, Megan Phillips, David Smith and Ryan Smith.

The rifle team took team trophies in all five of its categories, as well as first place overall and several individual awards.

Instructor Michael Gardner cited Monaco, Kyle Hart, Hunter Dean and Summer Donald as having “outstanding performances.”

The Boone Drill Team regularly competes in armed and unarmed drill, personnel inspection, color guard, exhibition drill and individual precision military drill.
