Jonesborough man dies in boating accident on NolichuckA Jonesborough man died over the weekend after the boat he was operating capsized on the Nolichucky River in Washington County.
According to the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, Michael W. Jones, 50, of Jonesborough, was operating a small, flat-bottom boat on Saturday with two adult passengers and two children on board with him.
The boat capsized just before 11 a.m. on June 30, shortly after being launched near AJ Willis Road in Jonesborough.
All five boaters were thrown into the river. The children on board were wearing life jackets while it is unclear whether the adults were wearing them.
While the other four boaters made it safely to shore, Jones disappeared.
Just after 6 p.m. on July 1, emergency crews recovered Jonesí body from 8.5 feet of water.
The boating accident remains under investigation by the TWRA.
