Free Kid Power event set for May 11 in Gray

A free Kid Power event will take place Saturday, May 11, at Daniel Boone High School from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Gray.

Kids of all ages can visit with The Cat in the Hat, meet the Kingsport Lifesaving Crew Heavy Rescue Bloodhound Search Team and see the Water Rescue Truck, search in the Gray Fossil Site Dig Pit, learn to bat with the Johnson City Cardinals, and get inside an 18-wheeler with Tennessee Trucking Association to see a real blind spot.

A Wings Air Rescue helicopter will land at the event and guests will be able to get up close and meet the pilot. The event also includes inflatables and a bounce room, a miniature obstacle course and several members of local law enforcement, fire departments and rescue squads.

Kids can make a chicken puppet, play corn hole, get their faces painted and get temporary tattoos. Kids will also be eligible for dozens of prizes.

“It seems like just yesterday we held our first event,” said Anne Newton, Kid Power media chair. “But 11 years later, it’s still a very exciting event filled for every age group. Kids play, learn, compete and have fun and parents can discover what’s available in their communities. What more could you ask for?”
