ETSU plans events for 15th anniversary of V-Day

East Tennessee State University is celebrating the 15th anniversary of V-Day, an international effort dedicated to ending violence against women and girls.

The main event for 2013, called One Billion Rising, refers to the fact that one in three women will be beaten or raped during her lifetime, which totals 1 billion women.

During the official worldwide day on Thursday, Feb. 14, a silent march around the ETSU campus is set for 12:45 p.m., with a dance at the Galaxy Lounge, 216 E. Main St., scheduled for 7-11 p.m.

A $5 cover charge will benefit non-profit organizations in upper East Tennessee dedicated to serving women survivors of violence. Music will be provided by Jen Rock, The Cry Babies, Amythyst Kiah and Charis Hixson. No alcohol will be served.

For more information about the silent march, contact Shae Keane at keanes@goldmail.etsu.edu. To volunteer at the dance, contact Casey Walker at walkercl1@goldmail.etsu.edu.
