Free income tax help available for local residents

The American Association of Retired Persons will offer free help with income taxes to local older residents as well as low or middle income residents through Monday, April 15.

Volunteer counselors trained by the Internal Revenue Service will be available at the following locations: Jonesborough Library, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Mondays and Saturdays by appointment only, call 753-1800; Gray Library, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesdays by appointment only, call 477-1550; Johnson City Library, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursdays, no appointment necessary; and Johnson City Senior Center, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Fridays by appointment only, call 434-6237.

Other area sites for tax help are the Senior Center in Elizabethton on Tuesdays, call 543-4362 for more information; and the Sullivan County Library in Blountville on Tuesdays, call 279-2714 for more information.

Those using this service should bring copies of their previous yearís federal and state returns, proof of social security numbers, and any forms such as a W-2 showing income for the 2012 year. E-filing is available.
